IGNORE: Building Lasting Brands Is About Romancing With Risk: Dr A Velumani, Thyrocare

Thyrocare Technologies Ltd, one of the pioneers in providing affordable healthcare has become a formidable brand over the years. One of the biggest reasons for this robust brand image has been the company’s formula of ‘romancing with risk.”
"I am the 149th richest man in India because I romanced with risk", says Dr Velumani, Chairman, Thyrocare Technologies Ltd. He was speaking at the recently held exchange4media-BW Applause Conclave & Awards 2017.
Owning a Rs 3300 Crore business has taken more than hard work and dedication and in the words of Dr. Velumani, “You need to fail to become successful."
The journey of Thyrocare started in 1996 when Dr Velumani decided to quit his cushy job at BARC and start his healthcare venture. “I had just Rs 2 lakh in my fixed deposit when I started this venture. My focus was to make healthcare more affordable. And for that to happen the cost of thyroid check-ups was set up at Rs. 100 which gave an enormous boost to the company.”
"Take less to get more was my motto along with doing something unique from what everyone else was doing in the healthcare business", Dr. Velumani explained.
Underling the importance of Romancing with Risk to build lasting businesses, Dr. Velumani stressed on that the mindset should always be about doing something unique rather than making money.
"When I reached Rs 1000 Crore I focused even more which led to disruption." Adding to the success story of the company Dr. Velumani said, "In 2016 the company grew to a value of Rs. 3300 Crore"
To end the session Dr. Velumani dedicated his success to his late wife for being the real support in establishing Thyrocare as the most formidable brand in the country.
The session concluded with a standing ovation for Dr. Velumani’s inspirational story of making Thyrocare the most disruptive brand in the heal
